Born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Antje Geusen first studied cello with Mirko Dorner at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen before studying with Markus Nyikos at the Universität der Künste in Berlin.  She became enthusiastic about historical performance practice after taking a master class with Hidemi Suzuki in 1989 and since then performs both modern and baroque music exclusively on gut-stringed instruments.  She takes her musical impulses from her studies with Hidemi Suzuki, Lidewij Scheifes and Anner Bylsma in Amsterdam.
 
Antje Geusen currently lives in Berlin and performs in different ensembles. Next to her activities as a solo cellist with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, she also works with the Schuppanzigh Quartet and Cappella Coloniensis. Her work with ensembles such as the Bach Collegium Japan as well as performance of both baroque and modern chamber music in various groups have shaped her outlook on cello performance. Between 1994 and 2000 Antje Geusen taught cello at the University of Potsdam.
