Clemens Maria Nuszbaumer was born in Linz, Austria and received his first violin lessons at the age of seven.  
 
As a student he was interested in historical performance practice and was a member of various baroque ensembles in Austria. After graduating, he studied law at the University of Salzburg as well as viola with Hermann Kienzl at the university Mozarteum. Additionally he took baroque violin lessons with Reinhard Goebel and Ingrid Seifert.
 
In 1986, Clemens Maria Nuszbaumer established the ensemble La Follia Salzburg, which focused on the historical performance of southern German and Austrian chamber music from the second half of the 17th century. He was also active with numerous ensembles specializing in historical performance practice, including Les Arts Florissants under the direction of William Christie, Cappella Coloniensis, and the Freiburg Barock Orchestra. Between 1999 and 2002 he was concertmaster of the Austrian ensemble Armonico Tributo.
 
Since 1993 he has been regularly working as a violist with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, where he has been a permanent guest since 2002.
