Ernst Schlader
Clarinet
Ernst Schlader, born in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut region, studied clarinet, organ, early music, musicology and knowledge management in Linz (Anton Bruckner Private University, Johannes Kepler University), The Hague (Royal Conservatory) and Frankfurt am Main (University of Music and Performing Arts).
In 2012, he received the Talent Promotion Award for Science from the Province of Upper Austria for his dissertation on the composer Georg Pasterwiz (1730-1803). Until 2017, he was an honorary professor for historical clarinet instruments at the State University of Music in Trossingen. He currently teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, where he qualified as a professor in 2023.
As a musician and musicologist, Ernst Schlader has been working with historical clarinets for many years. Through his archival research, numerous compositions have been rediscovered and made accessible to the public through publications and recordings. He is a member and solo clarinettist of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and also performs with the Collegium 1704, the Concentus Musicus Wien and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, among others. His work as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician is documented on over 60 recordings.
