Johann Sebastian Bach Brandenburg Concertos 1-6

Six concerts, six entirely different sound worlds, yet inseparably connected: with his Brandenburg Concertos, Johann Sebastian Bach created one of the most colorful and imaginative concerto cycles of the Baroque era. In 1721, he assembled the six works into a collection and dedicated them to Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg. Whether the Margrave ever had the concertos performed remains unknown.
In these works, Bach displays an almost astonishing wealth of instrumental invention. At times, horns, oboes, and bassoon take center stage; at others, trumpet, recorders, or violin emerge as solo voices, while elsewhere the strings perform entirely on their own. In the Fifth Concerto, even the harpsichord assumes a soloistic role.
This evening offers a truly special experience with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin: all six Brandenburg Concertos performed in a single concert. The result is a musical cosmos brimming with virtuosity, surprising timbral colors, and unbridled joy in music-making.
