Neujahrskonzert 2027 Bach - Messe in h-Moll

While most of Bach’s other vocal works fell largely into obscurity after his death in 1750, the Mass in B Minor continued to be performed, at least in part, during the late eighteenth century and was praised by audiences as “one of the most magnificent musical works ever heard.” In 1818, the music scholar Hans Georg Nägeli even described it as “the greatest musical work of all times and nations.” The Romantic composers Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms also studied the score intensively. Today, the Mass in B Minor ranks among the most popular works of sacred music, and countless performances and recordings continue to reveal new facets of its profound inner meaning.

At this year’s New Year Opening Concert, Chief Conductor Justin Doyle will take the podium.
