J.S. Bach
St Matthew Passion
St Matthew Passion has accompanied René Jacobs since his childhood, first as a choirboy in Ghent, then as a countertenor. He has never ceased to engage with the work. Today, he approaches Bach’s monumental creation at the intersection of historical musicology (forget the supposed “stereophony” of the piece) and theology.
In the service of the music are artists with absolute dedication to the project, along with three-dimensional multichannel technology. More clearly than ever before, this “Great Passion” embodies the paradox of a drama that is at once intimate, theatrical, and collective. A kind of journey of initiation, a step into the light that captivates the listener. (harmonia mundi)
