Christine Sticher

Double bass

Christine Sticher grew up in a small town in the Saarland with a vibrant music scene, where she was active as a guitarist and trombonist. At the age of 16, she began playing the double bass and was immediately captivated by its warm sound and power. She initially studied modern double bass in Mannheim and Salzburg and, during her early years of study, performed with the orchestra of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. It was there that her love for opera also began to flourish.

Fascinated by the compelling architecture of Baroque music and its bass lines, she went on to study early music in The Hague and Amsterdam. Following this period, Christine Sticher quickly established an international reputation as a continuo player. In 2017, she performed for the first time with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. She currently plays the double bass with other internationally renowned ensembles, including the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in London, and the Dunedin Consort in Edinburgh.
