Our subscription series at the Konzerthaus Berlin
Experience Baroque music and Viennese Classical music in the heart of Berlin, performed by an ensemble celebrated worldwide for its exciting interpretations.
The new season at the Konzerthaus opens with one of the most remarkable works from Handel’s Italian years: Il Delirio amoroso. At the heart of the cantata lies the story of the shepherdess Clori, whose grief drives her to descend into the underworld in search of her lost beloved, Tirsi. The work already reveals the young Handel’s extraordinary gift for dramatic characterization and emotional immediacy.
We are delighted to welcome soprano Jiayu Jin as soloist. One of the most compelling young artists in the field of early music today, she has earned widespread recognition for her interpretations of Baroque repertoire, including distinctions at the International Cesti Competition in Innsbruck. Our collaboration began at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music in 2025, and we are thrilled to continue it in this season-opening performance.
When the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin turns to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, audiences can expect all the vitality, imagination, and virtuosity that have made these concertos enduring landmarks of the repertoire. Few works so vividly translate the natural world into sound: the oppressive shimmer of summer, the crackling energy of storms, the crystalline stillness of winter. In our performances, each concerto will feature a different Akamus concertmaster as soloist, highlighting the distinctive artistry that lies at the heart of the ensemble.
We are also especially pleased to welcome back René Jacobs, whose artistic partnership with the ensemble has helped shape our work for many years. Joined by the exceptional mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert, he explores the theatrical worlds of Mozart and Haydn in a programme of arias and instrumental works, culminating in Haydn’s gripping Scena di Berenice. The evening also includes Haydn’s Symphony No. 101, The Clock, whose famously witty second movement remains one of the composer’s most ingenious inspirations.
Our longstanding partnership with the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin continues with a major choral project that forms one of the season’s central events. For the final concert of the subscription series, we present Handel’s Belshazzar, a masterpiece whose dramatic scope and psychological depth blur the boundaries between oratorio and opera.
In the Small Hall, a chamber music programme for sextet pays tribute to Ludwig van Beethoven, placing his music in conversation with works by Mozart and Anton Reicha, two composers whose paths intersected with his own in fascinating ways.
We would be delighted to welcome you as a subscriber for the coming season and to share these remarkable works with you.
